Bambino Update :: 26 Weeks

We had our 26 week check up last Wednesday (sorry for the delay...super busy!). Up until this point our doctor visits have been monthly. Beginning with this appointment, we will now start making our way to the doctor every 2 weeks. Yikes! It is getting closer!! But the last several visits have been pretty harmless and only take a few minutes. The doctor is one I've never met. Because our practice is fairly large, as of a few appointments ago they started putting me on a rotation so that I would have at least seen each doctor in the practice in case my primary is not on call when Baby decides to make his escape into the world. Anyway, back to the point. The appointments have been pretty short lately. Basically the nurses just do a quick test for signs of preeclampsia, etc. and then they put me in with the doctor. When the doctor comes in the room, he/she merely looks over my chart, asks if everything is okay, and listens to the heartbeat. Sometimes they have to take blood, but very rarely. This time, however, I had to take a glucose tolerance test which looks for gestational diabetes. It's not horrible, but it's not the best. They give you a very not-so-awesome drink that you must drink exactly an hour before they draw blood. Then they test it and give you the results within a few days. I haven't heard from them yet (and supposedly no news is good news) but I'll probably call anyway in a day or so just to double check!

Well, if you made it through what could possibly be the most boring explanation of doctor appointments ever.... I will tell you what the Bump says is going on with Baby! Little Baby M is now the size of an eggplant! They also say:

"Let your spouse put an ear to your belly -- he might be able to pick up baby's heartbeat (no stethoscope required). Inside the womb, the formation of tiny capillaries is giving baby a healthy pink glow. Baby's also soaking up your antibodies, getting the immune system ready for life outside the womb. Eyes are forming, and baby will soon perfect the blink -- perfect for batting those freshly grown lashes."

Pretty cool, I think! You know what else is cool? If you survived this entire post....
