First Outing!

Exactly one week ago today we took the little guy on his first official outing. As you can see, he was super excited about the whole thing! We planned a very extravagant afternoon to make his first out-of-the-house-and-inside-another-building a wonderful adventure for him!

Or not. We went to Lowe's. For about 15 minutes to pick up a few necessities on our way to my mother's house.
But we managed to make it through without incident and he slept the entire time which meant...drum roll please... no crying! Success! Since then we have taken him out to lunch once to the Filling Station (YUM!) and today we took him to Green Valley Grill to celebrate our birthdays with my mom, sister, aunt, and grandmother. He's been great every time! Lets hope we can keep up the trend! :)

The Many Faces of Liza

Baby Gray was finally able to meet Anna and Liza! I can tell you one thing, she is a fire pistol! So cute and sweet and super sassy (in a good way!)

Fuller is really great with her... such cute cousins!

The magnifying glasses are ALWAYS a HUGE hit at LuLu's house... always!

Baxter vs. Whipped Cream

First of all, I need you to know two things.

1. I absolutely adore this dog. I think I've made that pretty evident in the past...

2. We don't give our dogs "people food." Sure, they still stay close by when we are eating since inevitably someone (read: David) will spill and they will reap the reward of his inability to move a utensil carrying food morsels the 8 inches from his plate to his mouth. But, as a rule, the dogs are not fed people food. To this rule I have one exception. And it involves the very occasional placement of goopy goodness on Baxter's nose. Usually it is ice cream but this time it was whipped cream. And why, do you ask, do I do this? It is because when something is on his nose he absolutely can NOT figure out that he needs to lick upwards towards his nose. Baxter+Food on Nose+Can't Figure Out How to Get it Off= Happy Laughy Fun Time for ME!

I just can't do it, Captain! I don't have the power!

Okay, Okay... I know this kind of seems cruel... but it isn't. Okay it is. But really it isn't. Because inevitably he will drop his head and the treat will fall off and he will eat it and be happy. So everyone wins in the end! Especially me... because it is funny.

You may be reading this thinking "that girl needs to get a life" and to that I say... Yep.

Okay, a little help? For realz.

First Stroll in the Park

Ehhh, on JANUARY FIRST (I am so on top of this whole blogging thing...) we took Sir Gray on his first walk in the park! Honestly, it was the first time the little guy had been out of the house at all except for his doctor appointments. Since we had a slight reprieve from the frigid arctic temperatures that have become North Carolina, we decided to take advantage. So, we bundled him up and out we went on our first adventure!

Okay, not all of us bundled up.... One of us opted to wear shorts. In January.

Then again, the other one of us has no room to talk about wardrobe.... Clearly I am in desperate need of a full length mirror so I will never again leave the house looking like Mr. Hanky.

Ummm, guys? Can we go back inside? This ain't exactly Jamaica...

All in all, it was a pretty great start to the new year!

So big!

Oooooooo, I'm awesome!

The little guys is growing like a weed! He had a great check up at the doctor's office today weighing in at 10 pounds 3 ounces and 21 1/4 inches long. That puts him in the 50th percentile for weight and the 25th percentile for height. Most importantly he is happy and healthy!

5 weeks

I can't believe the little boy is 5 weeks old today. 5 weeks! Time is flying by....

His one month doctor appointment had to be rescheduled due to the snow and ice so we will be heading to the doctor tomorrow to see how much he has grown!

Snow Dogs

Snow, snow, snow!!!

We have a few serious snow dogs... primarily Kohana (the husky... clearly a snow lover) and Mabel (the St. Bernard who pants at the door when it is about 20 degrees outside).

Lola (the Great Dane) loves to play with the other dogs in the snow but is not a snow lover. She says it is because she is too dainty, thin, and short-haired but I know it is just because she wants to commandeer a spot on the sofa before anyone else can. I'm onto her games!

Being the baby of the pack, Miss Mabel is the most rambunctious of all the dogs. Add snow to the picture and she's out. of. control. Her favorite playmates? Lola and Franklin. Lola because she truly loves to romp and play with her. Franklin because she just annoys the bajesus outta him and she likes for him to chase after her.

Mission accomplished.

Ummmm, will someone help me!?!? This guy's gone crazy!!"

Do you think she knows she outweighs him by about 115 pounds???

Snow Day!

I'm not quite sure what is going on with North Carolina winters... but apparently NC has decided that it wants blistering hot and humid summers AND freezing cold snowy winters. But this new plan NC has in action did afford us something that I don't think I've ever witnessed before... a white Christmas! Growing up, I remember watching all of the Christmas classics they show on TV and ALL of them have one thing in common. They have snow on the ground when everyone wakes up on Christmas morning. So it was something of a treat to be able to experience that!

We are in the midst of receiving some snow and ice as I type which motivated me to post the picture of Gray, David, and me for his first snow (taken at the end of December)! I can't believe he is a month old and will have witnessed two snows! And before the middle of January, no less!

First Bath!

For the distant family members... well, actually, for all family members since only David and I were present to witness this earth shattering moment ;) ... but here are pictures of the little man's first bath! Well, his first tub bath since we had to give him sponge baths for the first couple of weeks. And by "tub" I mean his first bath in his baby tub. So, really I should have just said "Baby's first baby tub bath" but that didn't sound quite as exciting. Don't worry, he's had several baths since these photos were taken- otherwise we would have a very stinky baby!!

This isn't so bad!

He actually seems to like his baths! (This comes as a huge relief since I was afraid he had inherited David's gene of not bathing for weeks on end). I'm sure the warm water is a nice treat compared to the freeeeeezing cold winter we are experiencing. He just hangs out in the tub and patiently waits for me to finish scrubbing and rinsing. (Also, for the record, I was kidding about David's lack of hygiene. The dude won't go to the gas station without taking a shower first. He is obsessed.)

I hope this is cute and fun for the fam to see! And for those of you who aren't family but friends... yes, this is what my life has become :) But, I must admit, I'm in love. Even if I do spend the majority of my day covered in spit up and pee.

4 weeks...

Four weeks ago, at t 3:48 a.m., Baby Mehler decided he was ready to enter the world. Ten hours later he was here! I can't believe so much time has passed. I really don't think I can reiterate that enough. The fact that our little boy has been here for a month is truly incomprehensible to me. It feels like it has only been a few days!!

He has started to stay awake for longer bursts of time though he mainly just sits quietly and looks around taking in his surroundings. Unfortunately, he most prefers his awake time to be in the middle of the night! He makes eye contact and is starting to follow movements with his eyes. He smiles a lot during his sleep and even giggles sometimes. The giggles, I must admit, are pretty much the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life! He has met all of the dogs (or, more accurately, they have all met him) and it has been interesting to watch their individual perceptions of him (which range from uncertainty and aloofness to adoration). In his one month of life he has witnessed his first Christmas, his first snow, and the changing of a decade.

His one-month-check-up at the doctor's office isn't until next week but at that time we will learn how much he has grown- something that is bittersweet to this mama!!

Baby's 1st Christmas

I know I'm a little behind on the blogging... we've been busy around here! Honestly, I'm not quite sure what we've been busy doing but it seems like I am struggling to find the time to get much accomplished outside of changing diapers and feeding hungry mouths nonetheless. And honestly this leaves me a little concerned about what life will be like once crawling and then walking/running are involved!! :)

Anyway, we celebrated Gray's first Christmas this year. Clearly he had no concept of what was going on other than he was stuck wearing an itchy knit elf hat and had to be drug around outside in the frigid weather to and from a couple of family members' houses. But he enjoyed all the attention and was a real trooper (he pretty much just slept the entire time...)

We forgot to take pictures on Christmas Eve with David's family but we managed to snag a couple Christmas Day.

Just think... next year I'll be running around trying to make sure he doesn't pull the Christmas tree over on his head!

I'll try to get on top of things and post a little more frequently (and hopefully, for your sake, they will be a little more interesting!!!).
