Four weeks ago, at t 3:48 a.m., Baby Mehler decided he was ready to enter the world. Ten hours later he was here! I can't believe so much time has passed. I really don't think I can reiterate that enough. The fact that our little boy has been here for a month is truly incomprehensible to me. It feels like it has only been a few days!!
He has started to stay awake for longer bursts of time though he mainly just sits quietly and looks around taking in his surroundings. Unfortunately, he most prefers his awake time to be in the middle of the night! He makes eye contact and is starting to follow movements with his eyes. He smiles a lot during his sleep and even giggles sometimes. The giggles, I must admit, are pretty much the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life! He has met all of the dogs (or, more accurately, they have all met him) and it has been interesting to watch their individual perceptions of him (which range from uncertainty and aloofness to adoration). In his one month of life he has witnessed his first Christmas, his first snow, and the changing of a decade.
His one-month-check-up at the doctor's office isn't until next week but at that time we will learn how much he has grown- something that is bittersweet to this mama!!
